The Twinning Operation on Graphs Does not Always Preserve $e$-positivity

چکیده
Motivated by Stanley and Stembridge's $(\mathbf{3}+\mathbf{1})$-free conjecture on chromatic symmetric functions, Foley, Hoàng Merkel introduced the concept of strong $e$-positivity conjectured that a graph is strongly $e$-positive if only it (claw, net)-free. In order to study graphs, they twinning operation $G$ with respect vertex $v$, which adds $v'$ such $v$ are adjacent any other both them or neither them. $e$-positive, then so resulting twin $G_v$ for $v$. By considering subclass tadpole graphs certain vertices we disprove latter conjecture. We further show more generally clan $G^{(k)}_v$ ($k \geq 1$) may not even be $s$-positive, where obtained from applying $k$ operations

Marking Shortest Paths On Pushdown Graphs Does Not Preserve MSO Decidability
In this paper we consider pushdown graphs, i.e. infinite graphs that can be described as transition graphs of deterministic real-time pushdown automata. We consider the case where some vertices are designated as being final and we built, in a breadth-first manner, a marking of edges that lead to such vertices (i.e., for every vertex that can reach a final one, we mark all out-going edges laying...
متن کاملMonitoring does not always count.
The gross under-resourcing of conservation endeavours has placed an increasing emphasis on spending accountability. Increased accountability has led to monitoring forming a central element of conservation programs. Although there is little doubt that information obtained from monitoring can improve management of biodiversity, the cost (in time and/or money) of gaining this knowledge is rarely c...
متن کاملThe Measure Algebra Does Not Always Embed
The Open Colouring Axiom implies that the measure algebra cannot be embedded into P(N)/fin. We also discuss errors in previous results on the embeddability of the measure algebra. Introduction. The aim of this paper is to prove the following result. Main Theorem. The Open Colouring Axiom implies that the measure algebra cannot be embedded into the Boolean algebra P(N)/fin. By “the measure algeb...
متن کاملOptimal Bounds on Theta-Graphs: More is not Always Better
We present tight upper and lower bounds on the spanning ratio of a large family of θ-graphs. We show that θgraphs with 4k+2 cones (k ≥ 1 and integer) have a spanning ratio of 1 + 2 sin(θ/2), where θ is 2π/(4k + 2). We also show that θ-graphs with 4k + 4 cones have spanning ratio at least 1 + 2 tan(θ/2) + 2 tan(θ/2), where θ is 2π/(4k + 4). This is somewhat surprising since, for equal values of ...
متن کاملShallow seismic reflection does not always work
Shallow seismic reflection has seen widespread use in a variety of environmental, groundwater, and engineering applications over the last 15 years. Seismic reflection, like any other geophysical technique, has reasonably well defined limitations. Besides the well-published resolution limitation, the effectiveness of the technique is strongly dependent, and in many cases controlled, by near-surf...
